Very little material is available on David Mundell, although we know that he served as supporting counsel for the attorney general of Canada in the Supreme Court case that ruled on the validity of the federal government’s 1945 deportation orders for Japanese Canadians. A legal advisor to the espionage commission in 1946, he also later served on the Ontario Royal Commission on Civil Rights. In 1963, the Ontario government appointed James McRuer to chair a royal commission that eventually recommended extensive reforms to provincial statutes to better protect individual rights.
